Jim Majury has had a life-long fascination for nature. As a boy, he spent most weekends and summers in the drumlin country surrounding Uxbridge, Ontario, where he studied animal and birds in their natural habitat. Jim’s formal art training has been minimal. He is principally self-taught. His keen eye for detail and precision led him to develop the composite drawing into major investigative tool while employed as a police officer with the Metropolitan Toronto Police Force One of his sketches in 1960 resulted in the apprehension of a gunman wanted in connection with a series of armed robberies. He enjoyed numerous such successes in the ensuing years. Police forces across Canada called on his expertise to help them solve major crimes. His precise sketches are well known by law enforcement personnel through the continent.
After thirty-three years of service, Jim Majury has retired from the police force and is able to devote most of his time to the painting of wildlife. This is good news for Majury collectors. In just a few short years, Jim has become a widely known and respected artist.
