Joan Tovey

Inspiration abounds in the forest wildflowers and songbirds that surround the home studio of Kawartha area water-colourist Joan Tovey. She shows through her paintings the beauty of wilderness, a wilderness which she hopes will be preserved for future generations.

Joan's delicate, sunlit renditions of birds and flowers often contrast strongly against the fluid, self-focused backgrounds that mark her work. Her style reflects the changeability of nature and evokes within the viewer a sense of discovering a hidden, sylvan scene of fragile bauty which remains forever untouched.

Joan has travelled extensively in Canada and this has enabled her to research our native wildflowers and birds in preparation for new work. She has been devoted full time to her craft over the past eighteen years, which is the fulfilment of a childhood passion for painting and a three-year art course at Toronto's Central Technical School.
"Amid the Trilliums" was chosen for the cover of the 1995 Buckhorn Wildlife Art Festival cataloge and is still available as a poster. As an established artist, Joan's paintings hang in collections around the world.
