Here is a brief overview of important dates and special events that may interest you. We hope that you will be able to fit some of the occasions into your sightseeing schedule when in the beautiful Kawarthas.

Traditional Drumming -Free!

Talking Stick Workshop $20/person

 1pm-4pm This event requires pre-registration please email or phone, 705-657-3661 to register.  Good for all ages.  Each participant will learn about and create their own Talking Stick.  Personal experience proves Talking Sticks come in handy at family dinners, Book Club Meetings, Cub Scout Meetings, etc. Space is limited please pre-register

 May 21 & 22 , 2022 – Spring Art Show

1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Get ahead of the tourist season by checking out what’s new and exciting. Our most popular artists will be on hand to display their craft and their new ideas. This is the place to be!

Educational Pow Wow at Whetung's

10am to 2:30 p.m. 
To celebrate our National Indigenous Peoples Day, we are throwing a party.

Come join the Powwow right here at the Gallery! Dancers and artisans, music, food and fun to be seen and enjoyed.

Festivities start at 10am behind the main gallery building, rain or shine.

Outdoor event, please come prepared for any kind of weather.  Everything wraps up around 2:30 so schools can get back for their regular dismissal times.

Things to bring: Litter-less lunch, lots of water, sunscreen, bug spray, camera, money.

August 12 & 13, 2023 – Summer Art Show

Summer and ‘art in the Kawarthas’ have become a synonym for those who have discovered the wealth of art galleries, exhibits and artists’ retreats that abound in this area. From the world-famous Buckhorn Art Festival to Sir Sandford Fleming College’s School of Fine Arts in Haliburton, this is the place to be in the summer if art is your thing. Especially if Native, nature, or wildlife art is your thing! Start your tour right here at Whetung Ojibwa Centre!


Sept 17 & 18, 2022  Curve Lake First Nation Pow Wow 

Song and dance and story and regalia, food and sights and sounds! Just a bit down the road from Whetung's , the Curve Lake Pow Wow is an annual event that draws visitors from across North America. Don’t miss this one!

Grand Entry noon both days 

Rain or Shine our community's Pow Wow will still continue, please dress accordingly.

Most Pow Wow vendors are cash only.

No Dogs allowed.

Oct 8 & 9, 2022– Thanksgiving Art Show
1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Meet our artists and see them in action at this interesting event suitable for the whole family. Get out of the house this long weekend and enjoy the beautiful fall colours on your way to Whetung Ojibwa Centre.
